Splicing Tips for Fixed V-groove Splicers

To get a good result when splicing with fixed v-groove splicers, the conditions below are essential

(1) clean fibers and v-grooves

(2) appropriate arc discharge conditions (optimized with arc test)

(3) fiber with high concentricity

Ribbon splicing is a great time saver, splicing up to 12 fibers in one splice. However, if the v-groove is not cleaned, fibers may become misaligned and result in bad splices.

Sumitomo Electric's fusion splicers have a unique feature to remove misalignment errors. Look out for the next post with more details!
